# Set up the pen

> Charge it, record, and get the files off it.

The Juno pen is a voice recorder and a real ballpoint pen. It has a 360° microphone, 72 GB of storage and about 35 hours of recording per charge.

**In the box:** the pen, a USB-C to USB-A cable, earphones, spare ink refills and a small screwdriver.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open it and charge it">
    Open the pen at the ring. The USB-C plug is right there. Plug it into a laptop, phone, tablet or charger.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Press once to record">
    Press once to start. Voice mode pauses in the silences, so long meetings stay short to review.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Plug it in to get your files">
    Plug the pen into your computer or phone. It shows up like a USB drive. Each recording is a file named by when it started, for example `R20260922-213209.WAV`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload to Juno">
    Add the files on the website or send them on WhatsApp. See [Upload from the pen, phone or computer](/recordings/upload).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  If the battery runs low, the pen saves the recording before it powers down. You don't lose the take.
</Tip>

## Long recordings

The pen splits long recordings into several files. When you upload them, Juno joins files whose times line up into one meeting. If it isn't sure, it shows a **Join into one meeting** banner. See [Combine and split](/recordings/combine-and-split).

## The pen's clock

Juno uses the time on each file to date your recordings and to join the parts of a long one. If your pen's clock is wrong, fix it in the [pen settings file](/get-started/pen-settings-file).
